Vitasta School of Law Nowgam, Srinagar, organised a grand Welcome and Orientation Programme for the newly admitted batch of students, coupled with the formal release of the Vitasta Law Journal and the student magazine Vyeth. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, parents, and distinguished guests.
The programme commenced with a warm welcome address by the Principal, Mr. Rakib Ahmad Zia, who extended a cordial welcome to the Chief Guest, faculty members, students. He highlighted the importance of legal education in shaping responsible citizens and encouraged the new entrants to pursue their academic journey with dedication, integrity, and a commitment to justice. He emphasized that the institution remains committed to providing quality legal education and holistic personality development.
Mrs. Nosheen Ismail welcomed the gathering and formally introduced the programme. She greeted the distinguished Chief Guest, faculty members and the newly admitted students, describing the occasion as the beginning of a transformative academic journey. She urged students to embrace discipline, hard work, and professionalism throughout their legal education.
Mrs. Sabah Bashir presented an insightful introduction to Vitasta School of Law, tracing the significance of the name Vitasta, the ancient name of River Jhelum, symbolising the flow of knowledge and wisdom. She elaborated upon the institution's vision, mission, achievements, and commitment towards academic excellence, emphasizing its affiliation with the University of Kashmir and recognition by the Bar Council of India. She encouraged students to become ambassadors of justice and ethical legal practice.
Ms. Sadaf Sareen highlighted the vibrant co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities available to students. She elaborated on moot court competitions, legal aid activities, internships, workshops, seminars, debates, legal literacy programmes, and research opportunities. She motivated students to actively participate in such activities to enhance their advocacy skills and practical legal knowledge.
Mrs. Fatima Shah conducted a detailed orientation on the University's academic regulations. She explained the semester system, attendance requirements, internal assessments, examination pattern, and evaluation procedures. She advised students to maintain academic discipline, regular attendance, and active participation in classroom learning to achieve excellence.
Mrs. Shazia Durrani acquainted the students with the academic infrastructure and institutional facilities available at Vitasta School of Law. She introduced the faculty members, departments, library resources, conference hall, moot court hall, legal aid clinic, and digital learning facilities. She encouraged students to make optimum use of these resources for their intellectual and professional growth.
Mrs. Samreen Mehraj introduced the esteemed Chief Guest, Prof. (Dr.) Shahnaz, Head & Dean, Department of Law, University of Kashmir. She also briefed the audience about the significance of the Vitasta Law Journal as a platform for legal research and scholarship and introduced "Vyeth," the institution's student magazine dedicated to literary and creative expression.
The highlight of the programme was the gracious presence of Prof. (Dr.) Shahnaz, Head & Dean, Department of Law, University of Kashmir, who addressed the gathering with an inspiring lecture on "Legal History: Evolution and Relevance." She emphasised the importance of understanding the historical development of legal systems in appreciating contemporary jurisprudence and constitutional values. She encouraged students to cultivate critical thinking, legal ethics, and a spirit of continuous learning while reminding them that the legal profession carries immense responsibility towards society and the rule of law.
On the occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Shahnaz formally released the latest edition of the Vitasta Law Journal along with the student magazine Vyeth amidst applause from the audience. Appreciating the efforts of the institution, she congratulated the editorial teams, faculty members, and student contributors for promoting a culture of legal research, academic writing, and creative excellence. She remarked that such publications significantly contribute to the development of analytical skills and intellectual discourse among law students.
The programme concluded with the Director's Address who congratulated the newly admitted students and appreciated the efforts of the faculty members in organising the event. He reiterated the institution's commitment to producing competent legal professionals equipped with knowledge, ethics, and social responsibility. He also expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest for gracing the occasion and formally declared the programme a grand success.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, followed by interaction with the students and faculty members, marking a memorable beginning to the academic journey of the new batch at Vitasta School of Law and Humanities.
