Vitasta School of Law Organizes Lively Parliamentary Debate on Waqf Amendment
Nowgam, Srinagar – April 29, 2025:
Vitasta School of Law, Nowgam Srinagar, today hosted a thought-provoking and dynamic debate on the theme "Waqf Amendment: Guardians of Heritage or State Control?". The event uniquely simulated parliamentary proceedings, with students divided into two groups representing the government and the opposition benches.
The "government" side ardently defended the recent waqf amendments, emphasizing administrative efficiency and protection of waqf properties. In contrast, the "opposition" raised concerns over potential state overreach and dilution of community autonomy. The debate saw a spirited exchange of arguments, mirroring the decorum and procedure of actual legislative sessions, and was executed with remarkable precision and enthusiasm by the participants.
The event drew an audience of approximately 400 students, alongside faculty members who lauded the intellectual engagement and oratory skills displayed by the debaters.
In the individual awards category, Mr. Danish clinched the first position, followed by Mr. Abrar in second place, and Miss Souliha securing third place.
The event was meticulously organized under the guidance of Mr. Umar Rather and Mrs. Nowsheen, Incharges of Debates and Seminars. Principal Mr. Rakib Ahmad Zia graced the occasion and delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the efforts of the organizers and participants for making the event a resounding success.
The debate not only fostered legal and political awareness among students but also served as a platform to hone public speaking and analytical reasoning skills.
